On the Lake

We left Venice and headed west across Italy, almost to the Swiss border, to Lago di Como. Lake Como is famous around the world for its pristine waters beneath the snow-tipped Swiss Alps, a playground for the wealthy for decades. We stayed at a gorgeous historical hotel called the Grand Hotel Tremezzo that overlooked the middle of the lake, where it splits into three branches. Looking at a map, the lake is made up of three skinny portions, joined in the middle at the town of Bellagio (across the lake from us). From Tremezzina, we took a ferry around to Bellagio and Vernazza, where we wandered the cute streets, bought some silk scarves (the Como region is famous for its textile production, especially its silk), and toured some of the many villa estates that line the shores. My favorite villa was Villa Balbianello, but I also enjoyed the gardens at the Villa Carlotta, which was right next door to our hotel. All in all, Lake Como is entirely laid back and honestly not the most exciting place to be. Despite being extremely picturesque, there is not a whole lot to do for more than a few days. It's the kind of place you go to just sit and chill.

(I wore a navy blue button down tank from Ann Taylor, navy blue patterned Brooks Brothers pants, brown belt from Urban Outfitters, brown Schettino loafers I bought on Capri, pearl and chain necklace, and navy sailboat earrings.)
