Milan EXPO 2015
After Lago di Como, we headed off to Milan in order to visit the Milan EXPO 2015 -- it felt silly to be in northern Italy and not stop to see what all the fuss was about. An alternative name for this post could have been "Eating Around the World in One Day" since essentially the whole day was spent eating various global cuisine. If you've ever been to Epcot at Disney World in Orlando, the EXPO this year was a little like a large-scale version of that. The theme is "Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life." Many countries had pavilions to showcase the latest technology and their culture in relation to the theme. France, for example, had a wonderful Boulangerie with fresh baked baguettes as well as stations where you could learn more about the French food industry. In addition to the country pavilions, there were sponsored pavilions from companies like Coca Cola and Illy, and there were so-called cluster pavilions which focused on certain types of foods and the countries they came from, like the chocolate cluster. It was a lot of fun to explore the different architectural wonders that were the pavilions and to try all sorts of yummy dishes. The EXPO is on until October, so if you have the chance, check it out!
